Originally from the Bay Area
in Hayward, California, Gregory Ozment moved to Orange County to study
percussion where he completed his bachelor’s degree from the University of
California, Irvine, and his master’s degree in music performance from
California State University, Fullerton. He has studied with Arthur Storch,
Theresa Dimond, and Robert Slack, and has performed with other professional
musicians, such as Ted Atkatz, Shaun Tilburg, and Casey Cangelosi. He is
currently an active musician and teacher, and he’s a member of the Music
Teachers Association of California and American Federation of Musicians Local 7
(Orange County).
As a performer he is currently
the principal percussionist for the Southern California Philharmonic as well as
an occasional percussionist with the La Mirada Symphony, Palos Verdes Regional
Symphony Orchestra, Dana Point Symphony, and Whittier Regional Symphony
Orchestra. He is also a youth music minister at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in
Fountain Valley, previously serving in different catholic churches in the
Diocese of Orange and Oakland.
He is currently on faculty at
Neal Music Instruction in Anaheim, IvyCrest Montessori in Fullerton, Music
& Arts in San Dimas and Mission Viejo, La Serna High School in Whittier,
Santiago Canyon College, and Santa Ana College. He has previously taught at the
Saturday Conservatory of Music in San Gabriel in percussion, Suzanne Middle
School in Walnut as a percussion coach, Da Capo Music in Santa Ana for basic
piano and music theory, and has subbed as a music theory tutor at OrchePia in
Irvine and drum set teacher for WePlay Academy in Irvine.
