DR SUSANNE REID is the Chair of the Department of Music and a Professor of Music at Vanguard University. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Oklahoma, along with a master’s and bachelor of music from California State University, Fullerton.
As a performer, her national engagements include roles such as Musetta in La Bohème, Miss Pinkerton in Old Maid and the Thief, soloist for the Messiah and the Creation, soloist with Ballet Oklahoma and the Canterbury Choral Society of Oklahoma City.
Dr. Reid’s extensive teaching experience ranges from work at the University of Oklahoma, Golden Gate Theological Seminary, California Baptist University, and the Bangalore Conservatory in India.
Since coming to Vanguard in 2004, her teaching areas have included Voice, Music History, and Fine Arts. Under Dr. Reid’s leadership and initiative, she spearheaded and led the Department of Music to achieve accreditation with the National Association of Schools of Music and the granting of the Single Subject Waiver for Music by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing in 2015. Additionally, she serves as the Area Coordinator of the Worship Leadership program at VU.
She has been an esteemed vocal evaluator and choral clinician throughout her career and was inducted as a Distinguished Member of Sigma Alpha Iota – a national organization which promotes a commitment to music and campus life.
Dr. Reid is an active member at her local church, serving on the worship team. Her husband, Phillip, teaches as an adjunct in the VU Department of Science and their daughter, Jane, is a nurse at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles.
